Phoenix Housing

During the week of August 5-12th St. Mary’s Church and School hosted four single moms and their children, as well as a young couple expecting their first child.  Our guests were deeply appreciative of all that was provided for them.  Having a delicious dinner and a clean, comfortable, safe environment in which to spend the night is something they treasure, especially those who have come from traditional shelters or from sleeping in their cars.

This has been a meaningful opportunity for us as well.  It is difficult to imagine that any one of us might experience serious illness, job loss, abandonment by those who have cared for us, or become victims of domestic violence, but it does happen, most often to those who don’t have much to begin with.  The Phoenix Housing Network provides an opportunity for these parents to provide a safe, loving environment for their families while they attempt to get back on their feet, and back into a relatively “normal” lifestyle.  Those of us who were fortunate enough to spend time visiting with them have a new perspective on what it means to provide for our families.  We feel blessed to have played a role in providing for them and look forward to our next opportunity to help other families in the future.

Thank you to the many individuals and families who helped with this project by donating food, drinks and toiletries, by providing children’s activities, sleeping overnight, unloading and loading beds, keeping the families in your prayers, and most of all, for your time.  The Body of Christ is alive and well at St. Mary’s Church and School.
